Obituary of Joseph M. Saggese

Joseph Saggese was called home to God on Tuesday April 25, 2023.

Born and raised in NYC, Joe lived a truly international life living in Manila, Brussels, and Rome before returning to the States and settling in Manhasset NY.   Joe was predeceased by his mother, Madge, his loving wife Allene and 2 sons Kevin and Ted, and his son in law, Ken Kiess.  Surviving are his dear wife of 25 years, Patricia, his children JP (Cheryl), Kenneth (Kathleen), Allene Kiess, Kiera, step children Lee Ann Truss (Bill), James Brynes (Cathryn), Marianne Filipski (RJ) and a great big legacy including his 18 grandchildren, Christopher (Beth), Ian, Michael (Kristine),KJ, Erc (Samantha), Jack, Alex, Conor, Kieran, Liam, Maggie, Erin, Cailin, Timmy, Aidan John, Lily, Michaela, his great granddaughter Charlotte and soon to be great grand-daughter, and many dear lifelong friends including the communities of Strathmore Vanderbilt Country Club and Sands Point Golf Club.and a plethora of Irish cousins around the globe. Joe attended Fordham University with a degree in Finance. An MBA begun at NYU was completed at Ateneo de Manila, the leading Jesuit University in the Far East. Joe spent the majority of his career at Borden and retired as concurrent Chairman and CEO of Borden Chemical and Plastics and President of Borden Packaging and Industrial Products Division and Executive Vice President of Borden Inc. Beyond the love and generosity shown to his family, Joe tried to be the best FOR the world, living out his faith and the Jesuit motto AMDG – All for the Glory of God- in his daily life. Active in many charitable and civic projects including the Executive Board of Advisors at St. John’s University, Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce, The Philippine American Foundation, and the Latin American Agricultural Organization. Among the many honors he received include, The Bishop’s Humanitarian Award of Catholic Charities Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens, Honorary Chair of the Arthritis Foundation, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Boys and Girls Town of Italy. Joe’s last and one of his favorite “jobs” was volunteering at St. Francis Hospital transporting patients.
