Obituary of Marie Gula

Marie Gula formerly of Manhasset, passed away on April 24, 2023 at the young age of 101 and 9 months. She was predeceased by her loving husband, John, whom she married in 1941, her brother, Frank (a World War II veteran), and sister-in-law, Ronnie. Survivors include her 3 children, Carole Hicks (Don Ewing), Arlene Connolly (Joe) and John Gula (Shawn), her grandchildren Mehgan Dreibelbis (Scott), Robert Hicks (Amanda), Ryan Connolly (Katie), Kate Weigle (Graham), Aislinn McCart (Kevin), her 13 great grandchildren, nephews John and Bill (Snee) and niece Mary (Steinmeyer).

Marie was born in Astoria, NY and raised in Woodside, NY before moving to Manhasset in 1953.  As a beautiful young woman she modeled coats and suits for various houses in New York City. Marie enjoyed playing bridge and golf with her friends. But most of all, she loved everything Manhasset. From marching in the Memorial Day parade, to participating in the American Legion Auxiliary, to volunteering every Monday at St. Francis Hospital, to her beloved St. Mary’s Church and, of course, shrimp dinners with the “girls” at Louie’s…….she was truly a Manhasset Grande Dame.
