Dr DeRose was such a great physician, he was in a class on his own. He became my Doctor while I was working for his amazing Uncle, John. He always treated everyone with the same respect. I was hoping that he would live forever. Even when I moved back to London, I still stayed in contact with him and would visit him at his Bay Ridge office. My condolences to his wife, children and his entire family.

I was saddened to learn of Joe's passing. Joe and I were boyhood friend's. He lived next door to me on 28th Road in Astoria.
We hung out and played together up to our early teens. He was my best man at my wedding. Included is a picture of Joe and his sister Agnes outside of their home on 28th Road. My condolences to his family.

Our sincere thank you to all who posted about Dr. DeRose. Dr. DeRose was an excellent doctor and even a better person. He was kind, compassionate, and will be greatly missed.
I remember him saying once that another doctor called him and told him "you spoil your patients." That was the kind of person he was.
Thank you from his family.

My sincere condolences to the family. I will always appreciate Dr. DeRose, the way he took care of me, the way he supported my husband Solomon and me during dark times in my life,
As an RN, I worked with Dr. DeRose, and he enhanced my knowledge of taking care of patients. Dr. DeRose offered his help and resources to my husband after he graduated and needed to gain experience. My family and I will never forget Dr. DeRose. He will always be in our memory. Rest in Peace Dr. DeRose.

Dr. DeRose was my first and best mentor after graduating from PA school. I learned many lessons about medicine, but most importantly, to treat patients from your heart and head.

I am so sorry to hear of Joe's passing. Joe was a central part of my experience as a student and later faculty member at Downstate. He was so proud of having been the first Chief Resident here and he continued to be an amazing educator until his last days working with us. He was generous with this time and knowledge and an advocate for so many trainees. I know that he made me a better doctor and he touched the lives of countless students, resident and colleagues here at Downstate. His legacy is huge. I am glad that he is at rest now and will miss him forever.

Joe was an incredibly gifted and dedicated physician. We were fortunate enough to benefit from his care for some 40 years. He was always available to consult with us whether it be for ourselves or our children. He loved the practice of medicine and continued to expand his knowledge and experience until the day he retired.
Joe was an incredible doctor and an even better person. He will be sorely missed bur never forgotten.

Dr. DeRose was the epitome of a physician, medical educator, and human being.
I was most fortunate to have Dr. DeRose as my preceptor during my third year Medicine Clerkship at Downstate as he set the foundation for my career in medicine.
Dr. DeRose was truly a master clinician in every respect. His bedside manner was most warm, compassionate and caring.
Dr. DeRose’s knowledge in medicine was vast. He was meticulous in his physical exam and most thoughtful in constructing a differential diagnosis.
Moreover, Dr. DeRose created the strongest of bonds between himself and all of his patients.
I can attest to this as i spent one month of my fourth year at Downstate by his side. To this day 46 years later this was the most educational month of my entire career.
Dr. DeRose is still my role model as a physician as he was the standard of what every physician should strive to become.
My deepest condolences and sympathies to all of his family during this time of great loss.
Sincerely,
Bob Faillace
