I met Ellen and Frank in the late '80's. We are from different religious backgrounds, and Ellen and I had many conversations about our respective beliefs and practices. I was always struck by Ellen's respect for and interest in my and my family's observances (as I was in hers), as was evident from the wonderful conversations we had in Montauk, Florida, and at friends' homes. Ellen was funny, warm and intelligent, and she had a heart filled with compassion and love for her family and friends. I will always miss her. May she rest in eternal peace.

With deepest sympathy to the entire family of Ellen Coughlin, may she rest in peace, and in no more pain, may she be an important part of our lives from the heavens above, in wholehearted remembrance of who she was to all those who knew her for a long time and those like me who just recently had the pleasure of meeting the family with the marriage of my daughter (Alexa) to her son (Francis). Frank is a awesome young man who I know loved his mother to the ends of the earth. Ellen will be missed but will always be remembered as this thoughtful, smart as a whip, happy and caring individual whom I'm certain will never be forgotten.

Ellen’s life was a parable of love, creativity, compassion and kindness. She was a titan of tender mercy for so many because her commitment to the Gspel of life was unwavering. She believed that she who attains, has little; she who shares, has much.
Ellen could unearth the Good News with gusto, and so often, with the grace of a good laugh. She could bring humor to the darkest days.
Our hearts are flying at half mast for our wonderful friend, but similar to St. Therese of Lisieux, my guess is Ellen “will spend her heaven doing good on earth.”
You were one in a million, Ellen. We’ll miss you.
May you rest in God’s peace.
