Janet Rice posted a condolence

Growing up next door, the Oleksiws were a big part of our life. Mrs. O came over almost every day to visit. We built two steps out of railroad ties between our backyard and theirs to make the step down easier for her!
Before we left for a long summer trip, we transported my fish tanks to the Oleksiw house and set them up in their living room so they could be well cared for.
When I went through rough times in high school, Mrs. O called me up and told me that she just wanted to hold me. I will always remember that.
After my parents moved away, Mrs. Oleksiw wrote a long letter to them about how much we meant to them as neighbors all those years. The letter was not just a tear-jerker, but it also illustrated how truly thoughtful and loving Val was and what a special relationship we had. She is always a part of me and the whole Rice family.
