Beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. Survived by his loving wife, Athanasia Gavalas; proud sons and their spouses Stephen & Margarita Gavalas and Michael & Geri Gavalas; and adoring grandchildren Zoe, Lia and Clara Gavalas.
Dr. Nicholas Gavalas was a special person to so many, the foundation of his family and a deep presence in his community. He possessed a unique gift for making every interaction meaningful filled with wisdoms from Thomas Jefferson, the Great Philosophers and the Ancient Greeks. He left those around him with a smile on their faces and a lightness in their hearts.
He was a prominent psychologist for nearly 5 decades, during which time he touched and saved the lives of countless individuals. He helped his patients overcome their obstacles, fears and illnesses. When their journeys became too hard and the weight of their cross too heavy, he would put the weight on his shoulders and lift with them in humble strength.
He was a private man who reveled in the joys and accomplishments of his family. He loved Giants Football, playing tennis and was a lifelong patron of the arts helping to elevate the importance of culture and music for all.
He will be truly missed by his family and friends. May his memory and love be eternal.
