Obituary of Florence- Ann Augustine

Florence-Ann (Floss) Blank Augustine died on Friday July 21, 2023 at her home in High Point, North Carolina. Floss was born in Philadelphia on June 19 1930 to Edgar Maxwell Blank and Virginia (Sacrey) Blank.She was a graduate of Radnor High School and Bryn Mawr Hospital School of Nursing. Her classmates described her as a meticulous dresser with “sparkling wit”, a courageous hitchhiker, and a lover of American Indian culture.She went on to serve as a Lt. in the United States Air Force.
She married Nuncio Augustine in 1956.They had 5 children- Stephanie (David), Anthony, Jacqueline, Michael Sr (Jill), and Nicholas Jr (Gwynn) They raised their family in a large home in East Norriton, Pa.She worked as an RN supervisor at Green Acres Nursing Home in Wyndmoor Pa. for 25 years and mentored several nurse’s aides in achieving their nursing degree.She was an active member of St John’s Episcopal Church serving in many leadership positions. She volunteered in many roles supporting her children including President of the Women’s Guild at Bishop Kenrick High School. She was a patron of the St Labre Indian School for many years and took a trip with her daughter Stephanie to visit the school and other Native American points of interest including the Wounded Knee Memorial. She also attended many Annual 339th Squadron Reunions with her husband and they hosted the annual reunion in 1994.
At age 75, Florence graduated from Philadelphia University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. She received the President’s Award at her graduation ceremony for her perseverance in completing her education over 10 years that included many challenging moments. Her fellow graduates spoke of their respect and admiration for her and she always said it was one of the proudest moments of her life.
After 40 years in East Norriton she moved to Oyster Bay, NY. She was an active member of Christ Church and volunteered at Oyster Bay Manor Nursing Home. She walked 2 miles round trip to participate in many activities at Doubleday- Babcock Sr. Center. For a year she worked as a lunch lady at her grandchildren’s elementary school.
After 15 years in Oyster Bay, she moved to High Point, North Carolina with her daughter Jackie and attended St Mary’s Episcopal Church.
Floss will always be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and a woman of great strength, dignity, and fortitude.
Floss was predeceased by her husband Nuncio, her sons Anthony and Nicholas, and her grandson Matthew. She is survived by 3 children, 11 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren
