Obituary of Stavroula Kontogiannis

Please share a memory of Stavroula to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Stavroula Kontogiannis of Garden City, NY, loving mother, doting grandmother, and an active member of her community, passed away on Sept. 28, 2023, at the age of 74, in Mineola, NY, after bravely battling a brain aneurysm.

Stavroula, affectionately known as "Voula" or “Stevie” to her friends and loved ones, was born on March 11, 1949, in St. Louis, MO, to Mary and George Caporal. She earned an associate degree from Nassau Community College and a paralegal certificate from CW Post College. She ran the family restaurant, Pisces One Restaurant, and later in life, served as a paralegal for Nationwide Insurance, where her meticulous attention to detail and strong work ethic made her an invaluable asset to the team.

A dedicated member of the Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church, Voula was deeply involved in her faith community, once serving as president of its Greek School. Recently, she took on the role of president of the Hellenic Women's Club, tirelessly working to strengthen the bonds of her church family.

Voula’s most important role and the job she cherished most was mother. She is survived by her sons, George, Peter, and John Kontogiannis, and their wives, Ceyda, Suzana, and Alice Kontogiannis. Voula was dedicated to her family and always there when anyone needed her, offering unwavering support, love, and guidance. In addition to her sons and daughters-in-law, Voula leaves behind a legacy of love through her cherished grandchildren, Madelyn, Constance, and Sophia Kontogiannis, who brought immeasurable joy to her life.

Voula will be remembered for her kind and generous spirit, and her tireless dedication to her loved ones. Her absence leaves a void that can never be filled, but her memory will forever shine brightly in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Viewings will be held on Wednesday Oct. 4, at Fairchild Sons Funeral Chapel in Manhasset, NY from 2-4p.m. and 7-9p.m. A funeral service to honor Voula’s life will be held at the Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church on Thursday Oct. 5 at 9a.m. A burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Kew Gardens, Queens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name to the Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church, The INN in Hempstead, NY or a charity of your choice.

Voula touched the lives of many with her love and kindness, and her legacy will continue to inspire us all to be better, to love more deeply, and to always be there for our family and friends in their times of need. May her memory be eternal!
