Obituary of Richard J. Singer

Richard J. Singer of Port Washington, NY passed away peacefully at home, on November 1, 2023.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jane, who passed away earlier this year. He was the loving father to two daughters, Lorie Singer and Susan Ethier, son-in-law Jean-claude Ethier, beloved grandfather of Timothy (Melissa), Kaitlin and Alexander Ethier, and proud great grandfather to Felix Ethier. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Robert, Edward, and Patricia.

Richard was raised in Brooklyn and enlisted in the Army in 1946. He was an Army Sergeant with the Trieste United States Troops (TRUST Force) in Northern Italy working to prevent Marshall Tito from annexing Trieste to Yugoslavia. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley. After graduation he became a career life insurance salesman with New York Life Insurance Company, and continued in that capacity until 1993.

Richard became involved as an activist in community issues involving the environment. He loved the outdoors, fishing, gardening and carefully landscaping his yard. In the 1970s he created a neighborhood outdoor club called the Revere Riders. He planned outdoor excursions for the kids in the neighborhood and they loved it. He will be missed tremendously.
