Obituary of Luigi Laricchia

Luigi Laricchia of Port Washington, aged 86, passed away at home on November 9th after a lengthy illness. Luigi was born July 6, 1937 in the small town of Adelfia, Italy. He married his beautiful wife, Margherita Derasmo in 1959 and immigrated to America where they settled in Astoria, Queens then in Port Washington, NY. He found work in construction where he developed his incredible talent for building. There he built several homes and raised their three daughters: Sabina (Bart) Moroney, Rachel (John) Sullivan and Nina Laricchia. In addition to his wife and daughters Luigi leaves behind four grandchildren: Julia, Lauren and John (Jack) Sullivan, and Bart Moroney, Jr. His incredible love and dedication to his family was immeasurable.
Luigi was a proud union member and reveled in telling stories of working in all parts of New York. He held immense affection and respect for his longtime association with Paterno Construction where he dedicated 45 years of service to them. Luigi was equally proud of his Italian heritage, routinely stopping by bakeries in Brooklyn and Queens on his way home to bring authentic pastries to the family. Holidays were a spectacle in the Laricchia home, typically the product of trips to Arthur Avenue in the Bronx, the best butchers in Queens, and early morning trips to get the best fresh seafood. He was a true family man and his smiles and love were felt when his entire family surrounded him around the dinner table. Nothing brought him more joy. As a young man he played Italian soccer on traveling teams and scored numerous goals. He carried his love for the game when immigrating to America and continued to follow the Italian national team, celebrating their successes and always wearing his blue jersey during the World and European Cups. His loving character will be greatly missed and always remembered.
