Gramps,
Watching you take your last ride was amazing to see. It brought tears to my eyes accompanied with a smile. To witness the amount of respect everyone has for you makes me honored to be your granddaughter. Your charm and ability to make people smile will carry with me. Your guidance will always be appreciated. Your stories will never be forgotten. I will cherish our talks, the many letters exchanged over the years and memories of Christmas in New York will never leave me. I will miss you and think of you always.
Love,
Grayce

It is an honor to be his grandson, words cannot express the deep appreciation I have for him. I’ve always had an ambition to be in the Fire Department, and because of him I ultimately decided to dedicate my life to the fire service. I will miss the deep conversations I was blessed to have with him all of these years, especially the ones relating to his experiences during the nearly 41 years he dedicated to the FDNY. It was an honor to experience his final wishes with our family and the FDNY family, I will never forget what the FDNY did for him and our family during this time. Meeting all of the firemen he worked with throughout the years is a highlight in my life that I will always cherish and never forget. There were even firemen, who never worked with him, tell me how much of an impact he had on their careers and personal lives. I will work my hardest to carry on his legacy in the fire service and the dedication he had to his family. The life lessons I learned from him will be passed down to his great grandchildren and his legacy will live on. What a blessing it was to have him around all these years, this is truly a celebration of his life and I look forward to the day I get to see him again. We love you and will miss you every day.
Until we see each other again,
“Mikey Me Boy”

Dad,
When I was young, my favorite TV show was “Superman”. It came on after you would leave for work. I used to tell people you were Superman because you looked like Clark Kent (with your glasses on) and I knew you were helping people at your job. As I got older and learned more about what you really did when you went to “work”, I realized you truly were a hero, not just to me, but to so many others.
I’ve been going over so many memories we shared, like the time you took me “out to lunch” at a hot dog truck on the side of Belt Parkway! You took me to my first concert at Carnegie Hall, to see Chicago, (and put cotton in your ears). We went for pie and hot chocolate afterward. All the times you chaperoned my high school dances and the time we went to the Thanksgiving Day parade, just the two of us, and ate lunch in the city. The many, many times you took me horseback riding because you knew how much I loved it.
I have so many wonderful childhood memories I will always cherish. Thank you for giving all of them to me.
I love you,
Betty.

Uncle Bob- No words can describe the loss that is being felt by so many. You will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved you. The beautiful moments you shared with us will always remind us of the great man you were. You were an amazing brother to Mom, and were always there for Dad and our entire family. I will always remember the times you would sing “Sioux City Sue” at parties with Dad and never want the party to end. Your jokes and stories will forever be embedded in my mind. No matter how small or large the crowd, you always made everyone laugh. Your contagious smile always warmed the heart of every person you met. Your legacy as a New York City Fireman will continue to live on. Rest in peace Uncle Bob and continue the party with all of the family up in heaven. Love you always, Eileen

Chief Stehl was a special man, he will be missed at every function that he attended and that was many, he always showed up and seemed ageless. Amazing how much he loved the FDNY and always contributed to its greatness with plenty of energy and enthusiasm. He will be remembered for being the great person that he was.

Thanks Chief Stehl for all the great times in Engine 248 and Battalion 41. For all the men who knew you and worked with you were a perfect gentleman and a class act! Your 41 Battalion was always going to be held to a higher standard, you were a mentor to so many firemen who came through the 41 and you will never be forgotten. Your Christmas sing alongs at the firehouse Christmas parties were the best!!
May You Rest In Peace
From 248 and The 41 Battalion

Bob organized and ran the E.248/41 Batt. Retirement parties. He called everyone to tell them when it was happening. He was the glue that kept the retirees together, he will be sorely missed by the firefighters for that. I worked with him when I was a fireman, and he was a chief. I found him to be lighthearted, personable, and friendly.
