Obituary of William A. Gallo

Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

William “Bill” Gallo was born on 8/18/1930 to Davide and Maria Gallo. The third of four children, he was raised in Brooklyn, NY before attending St. Bonaventure University for his undergraduate studies and St. John’s Law School for his JD.

In 1957, while serving in the Army’s Judge Advocate General’s office at Fort Dix, an attractive assistant to the special services officer offered him tickets to “Mr. Wonderful” with Sammy Davis, Jr. His impeccable assessment skills failed Bill at that moment, and he refused. Later, after realizing his mistake Bill pivoted and began a daily ritual of leaving a cup of coffee on the desk of the young girl from Trenton. For the next 66 years he arose each day trying to bring joy to the love of his life, Adele.

In July 1958, Bill and Adele married. They moved to Long Island in 1963 where they raised four kids and lived for over 60 years. After passing the bar, his career as an attorney was short-lived as his father, Davide, brought him into the family business manufacturing clothing where he helped diversify and grow the company into a global producer and distributor with operations in the US, South America, Poland, Russia, and the Far East. Bill “retired” at the age of 77, though friends and family will tell you he never stopped working. He continued as a mentor, catalyst and supporter to many.

Bill was very devoted to his family, Church and beliefs; encouraging, demanding and coaxing the best of anyone he came in contact with. Many who knew him say they “graduated from the Bill Gallo University”. In later years he founded the Order of the Thumb, followers of which are imbued with a reverent fear of the lethal power of his famed digit. The doctrine lives on in his grandchildren, though none have as yet harnessed the power.

William is survived by his wife Adele and their four children, 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
