Dr. Nicosia was a wonderful doctor, but more than that I enjoyed his caustic humor and honest judgments. He changed my life when he recommended a mitral valve replacement and then ensured that the best surgeon at St. Francis would do the operation. That was 30 years ago and, as Dr. Nicosia liked to say, it still sounds crisp and is working well.
I am sad to only learned recently tof his death. His smile, his intelligence, and his caring work will remain with me forever.

“Great Leaders Don’t Tell You What To
Do, They Show You How It’s Done “
Two decades ago, I joined Manhasset Medical Associates under the leadership of Dr. Tom Nicosia. Within a few weeks I could already see he was the heart and soul of our practice. Beyond his ridiculous intelligence and clinical diagnostic foresight, he was the kindest and most empathetic human being I had ever come across. He made me want to be a better physician, and made me so proud to be a part of his team. Not only was I in awe of how he could recall every medical and social detail of each of his patients, dating back many years prior, I was amazed by how much he truly cared about each patient as an individual. No matter what the business of medicine asked of us it would never get in the way of how he cared for any of his patients. Tommy, thank you so much for taking me under your wing and making me a part your amazing medical family, I will always remember you and I know we will meet again one day. So for now please behave up there in heaven. We’ve all talked you up a lot! Love you , Doris

Dr Nicosia saved my life, literally. 23 years ago he diagnosed me with an atrial septic defect and after Tom researching my many many Echocardiograms, he located the problem that was obvious on all the other Echos from Memorial Sloan Kettering to HSS to multiple private practices. When I had the surgery immediately performed, it was discovered that I was about 6 months from a major stroke that I would have never survived. So when I say he saved my life, Tom truly did save it.
I will always hold his memory in a special
place in my heart.
Thank you Tom

Dr. Nicosia was my cardiologist for over 35 years. As a physician, he was the best of the best! I had complete confidence in him and anyone he ever recommended to me was top notch as well, especially his amazing wife, Dr. Florence Barricelli. I went to him, thinking I was dying, because another doctor told me that there was a shadow on my heart. I had small children and I was terrified. He looked at the tests and said "That's the shadow of the machine, don't worry, you're fine!" He always made me laugh and if laughter is truly the best medicine, then he contributed greatly to my good health in that way as well. Dr. Nicosia was an amazing doctor, but not just technically, but as a human being. He was kind and thoughtful and made you feel that he really cared about you and I believe that he really did care about us all. My deepest condolences to Dr. Baricelli and his family. If we feel his loss so greatly, how much harder must it be for you as those he loved so dearly. God bless his soul!

Dr. Nicosia was a great mentor, a brilliant physician, and most of all, a caring friend. He will be missed.
I met Dr. Nicosia 33 years ago at a meetup at St. Francis Hospital to start the vascular lab. I immediately bonded with him and shortly thereafter, I received a call asking me to join his office staff. The rest is history.
Dr. Nicosia always took time from his office hours to call us at the hospital and convey his appreciation of our work. When his patients would ask about their vascular study results, he would often smile and say "if she did not send you to the hospital, you're ok."
Thank you Tom for all your guidance, professional and personally. My deepest sympathies to Flo and the family.
May God Bless You Forever.

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Nicosia beginning in September, 2013. I learned to pay attention to the quips he muttered under his breath and appreciated his dry sense of humor. He added comic relief to the work day! He was beloved by his patients and staff alike. Dr. Nicosia will certainly be missed but our fond memories will surely be a source of comfort. Sending condolences to the family.

About 40 years ago. I was walking down Northern Blvd to my parked car. People would honk their horns to say hi and without looking I would raise my hand and waive hello. All of a sudden a car on the other side of the street stopped and a man got out and yelled at me to make an appointment to see him. I did and I proudly told him I had stopped smoking. Without hesitating he replied now loose 50. I suggested a more reasonable goal would be 25 lbs. Silence.
Dr. Tom cared and always took the time to ask about my mom and family..
Manhasset lost a treasure..
Respectfully, Andy Palmedo

Dr. Nicosia was my father‘s angel… I will never forget the day when he walked into the Saint Francis hospital ER, and was able to diagnose my father with a rare heart condition. After that circumstance, we knew that he was a very gifted cardiologist with special ability to see what other professionals did not see. He and Dr. Baricelli became family friends. My parents adored both of them and watched as their little girls grew to be beautiful women. My parents loved bringing them gifts when they traveled to their mother countries, Spain.
Coincidentally, my mom, Angela Portela, was also laid out at Fairfield at the beginning of December and my uncle Joseph Portela was just there a few weeks ago. Rest in peace Doctor Nicosia… Thank you for your legacy and all the lives you have gifted with your expertise and presence. Our sincerest condolences to Dr.Baracelli and Family. Sending a healing hug.

I am so saddened by Tom's loss. He was a great clinician and a great guy. By necessity, most of our conversations over the years were about patients, but our truly memorable conversations were about our shared passion, woodworking. I remember so well his excitement at getting his new Felder multi machine. I always enjoyed those little conversations. Unfortunately it is my loss that they were too few and too long ago!
Tom epitomized a life well lived.
My thoughts and prayers are with you Flo and with all of your family.
God Bless!

Dr. TOM - what an amazing man and a great Doctor. He was my Mom’s cardiologist for years and she adored him. She particularly loved his voice which actually woke her from a coma after bypass surgery. He was such a gentle man, brilliant and caring doctor.
My heart goes out to Dr. Flo and his children and wish peace and grace during this most difficult time. I am sure they are so proud to have had a great husband and father- can’t get any better than Dr. Tom. May the joyful memories of his life last forever and bring solace to them.

A silent hero, Dr. Tom Nicosia left his footprint of grace.
. For most, being a gifted cardiologist would have been enough but Tom gave us so much more. Displaying genuine hospitality, he welcomed us all by hosting numerous barbecues and preparing many delicious holiday feasts.
Moreover, he loved entertaining all his nieces and nephews whether it was tubing on their family boat or just watching a Yankee vs Met game together. He was a wonderful uncle and brother-in-law!!
We shall miss your quick wit, your gentle smile and your sincere love of family.
Dr Tom Nicosia the world shall never be the same without you but shall forever be a better place because you made it so!!!

I met Tommy when I entered the third grade at Munsey Park Elementary School in Manhasset. We were both 7 years old. Always a smart, kind, quiet, caring boy, he grew up to be an amazing man. All of us who knew him as a child (MHS ‘65), adored him. He was well-respected, admired, and loved by all.
Many of us had Tommy’s father as our pediatrician. When my Dad had his heart attack in 1986, Tommy took care of him. He was by his side. And when my husband was first diagnosed with a serious heart condition a few years ago, Tommy, already dealing with his own medical issues, insisted on our coming to see him at his home for a
private consultation. I feel lucky to have had him as my friend.
The Nicosia tradition of medical excellence continues. It lives through the extraordinary medical care Tommy’s wife of 30 years, Flo Barricelli, so generously provides to her patients. New York is a better place because of her…
