Obituary of Donald George Zerbarini

Donald George Zerbarini was born to Henry and Elizabeth Zerbarini in Whitestone, Queens. He was the youngest of 3 siblings, and his sister Jean and brother Robert and their families were much loved by him, and he by them. In his youth, he was a clothing model for catalogues, a Boy Scout who achieved the honor and rank of Eagle Scout, and a football player.  

Don, or Zeb, as he was known then, graduated from Bayside High School, where he met his beloved Marylyn. High School sweethearts, they married in 1960 and supported each other every day.  

Don and Marylyn were leaders in Marriage Encounter and taught Pre-Cana classes for engaged couples. In the 70’s, a group of families at St. Mary’s came together in study and friendship and action, calling themselves “the community.” This group brought music and arts and social connection to the church, sponsored a family of Vietnamese refugees, and generally worked for an engaged and activist faith. He joined Marylyn in the “folk groups” she founded and learned to play the guitar for them (with much delight!).   

St. Mary’s was an important place for him for faith and community: with his wife, he attended mass daily, was a Eucharistic Minister, and served on the Parish Council. The community he found in the Wednesday morning men’s group was deeply meaningful to him.  

Don studied Economics at Queens College and became a highly respected Insurance Analyst, serving as the president of the Association of Insurance and Financial Analysts. Revered by his colleagues, he was known for his integrity, always putting ethics over profit. In retirement, he devoted his time to service, leading the Rotary Club of Manhasset as co-president, supporting the Caring Hands Foundation, and helping family and friends.  

Those who knew him will recall his laughter, loving teasing, warmth, and practical jokes. But especially, his kindness.  

He is survived by his children Lina (Dinah Mark) and John, and grandchildren Sarah, Liora, and Yael. He leaves a legacy of love and laughter and will be remembered with gratitude.
