Obituary of Phyllis Keogh

Filomena (Phyllis) Theresa Gorga Keogh died peacefully at her home on Monday, April 1, 2024 at the age of 94.  

Phyllis was born on June 28, 1929 in Astoria, NY to Frank and Louise Gorga. She was raised in Flushing, NY along with her brother Raphael. She attended Hunter College and upon graduation in 1955 with her masters, became a teacher.  

She met her husband, Robert (Bob) and they married on July 8, 1951 before moving to Albertson. They later moved to Port Washington in 1957 where they happily raised their three children Diane, Robert (Bob), and Steven. Phyllis worked in the Port Washington School District as a dedicated teacher for over thirty-five years before retiring in 1991. In her retirement, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her home was filled with the sounds of Frank Sinatra and piles of crossword puzzles.  

Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Bob (1997) and son Steven (2024). She is survived by her daughter Diane, son Bob, daughter-in-law Lisa, and three grandchildren, Thomas, Patrick and Jennifer, who lovingly called her Grandma.  

Phyllis will be greatly missed by her family who will always remember her love of teaching, kindness, and enduring love of family.
