Obituary of Robert Emmett Nolan

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Robert Emmett Nolan, 85 years old, of Manhasset, NY passed away on May 19, 2024 at home surrounded by his family after a year long battle with Multiple Myeloma. Bob was born on August 19, 1938 in the Bronx to the late Jeremiah and Ellen (O’Sullivan) Nolan.

Bob graduated from Evander Childs High School, where he was  a Public School Athletic League All-City Swimmer. He attended New York University and earned a Bachelor of Science in 1961. While teaching full-time, Bob later earned his Masters of Science in Education from Fordham University.  During his 35 year career with the New York City Board of Education (currently the NYCDOE) he held many positions at schools throughout NYC: Evander Childs HS, Harry S.Truman HS, Eli Whitney HS, and Samuel Gompers HS, before retiring from The High School of Graphic Communication Arts in Manhattan as Assistant Principal in 1996.

On June 10, 1961 Bob married Theresa Dillon, his high school sweetheart, at St. Anthony’s RC Church in the Bronx. In 1962 they purchased their first home in Nanuet, NY. Bob was very proud to have doubled the size of their house with the help of family and friends before selling it to move to Manhasset in 1972. During his years in Manhasset he was an active member of the Port Washington Yacht Club, serving on the Board of Governors and as an officer of the PWYC Land Company. Bob was a true athlete: a swimmer, golfer and tennis player.

Bob was predeceased by his parents; siblings Patrick Timothy, Eleanor, Jeremiah, Dorothy Zecchini, and James McDermott. He is survived by his wife Terry, daughter Theresa, son-in-law Edward Hauser Jr., his grandchildren Dillon and Robert Lunetta and his sister-in-laws Bridget Richards, Patricia Del Savio, Joanne Dillon and Valerie McDermott, as well as many nieces and nephews.
