Ruth I cannot count the days in which you made my day with your energy wit and fighting spirit whatever the topic. I looked forward to your switchboard announcements and the times in which we would chat in the lobby. You are the salt of the earth and I will miss you dearly.

For all of us who knew Ruth at the Helen Keller National Center, she was a warm smile, a light in our day. We were so fortunate to have worked with and known Ruth for so long. When I had left the agency and returned after 6 years, she didn't miss a beat. She remembered and asked about everyone in my family. A truly caring and loving person. May she rest in peace.

Truly a wonderful person that lit up any room. I enjoyed my time working with her at HKNC for many years. She will be missed! Ruth always let me park by her house when taking the train to NYC or a Yankees game! Sweet lady! She was funny too, especially if you didn't bring in bagels on your last day of working at HKNC. HA! RIP!

"Aunt Ruthie" was my Uncle Stevie's (another great man who we've lost), sister. I saw her at family gatherings a couple times a year, and she was one of the most lovely and gracious people I've ever met. Always smiling, always warm and welcoming. Even as a child, she made me feel like she was genuinely happy to see me and interested in whatever I was saying. Like the beautiful photo of her posted here, kindness just emanated from her. My condolences to all of her family, I know she will be greatly missed.

Ruth was a resource at HKNC for me and so much more than her job title. An independent and clear voice for the union. A loyal person who cared for all. May she rest in peace and rise in glory.

We loved having Ruth across the street from us for 23 years and considered her a dear friend. She loved our daughters Juliet and Sofia when they were small and always talked to them and played with them and looked out for them. When we lived in London and Paris she even sent them toys and gifts overseas for Halloween and Hanukah. When they knocked on her door to visit her on Herbert Avenue she always gave them Yorks chocolates. Ruth attended their bat mitzvahs and graduations. She always had great stories to tell about the neighborhood. She was like the local historian. Ruth had an amazing memory. She had a big heart and we’ll miss her.

I am deeply saddened to learn about Ruth's passing. When I walked through the doors of Helen Keller National Center many years ago to start volunteering, Ruthie was at her desk in the lobby with a warm greeting - one of the reasons I fell for the place, and ended up working there for 43 years. We shared many memories, laughs, and tears. Her voice over the intercom was legendary and sorely missed by all when she retired. May dear Ruthie rest in peace.

When I was in High School, my “Aunt Ruthie” would see me walking by the library (I seldom went in) and would always run out to give me a dollar to get something in the cafeteria. As with most teenagers, I was always hungry and a dollar went a long way in the 70’s. That was Aunt Ruthie, always looking out for others, kind and generous. She was loved and will be dearly missed by so many—including her oldest nephew. Stephen Leeolou
