Dear President Sombrotto: To me you will always be known by this prefix, along with Bill Doherty, Jim Rademacher, Jerome J. Keating, etc. You and I came into the N.A.L.C. about the same time and I supported and followed you to the Top. Of all the N.A.L.C. affairs, your presence during our 50th YEAR LETTER CARRIER VIEWPOINT CELEBRATION stands in my Memory of N.A.L.C. National Presidents. You came to Kansas City, donned a Viewpoint T-Shirt and threw out the first pitch at a Kansas City Royals Baseball Game, for a strike. Joe Miller, NBA was the recipient catcher. This was the first and most prestigious honor ever received by Branch 30. My biggest disappointment was your handling of the NALC SONG, voted by the membership for adoption, at Las Vegas, NV. WE ALL LOVE THE N.A.L.C. Sellie Truitt

Few have changed the lives of so many people in the world. Fewer still have made the lives of working men and women in this country better. Vince was the true "father" of the National Association Of Letter Carriers and an inspiration to all of us who were blessed knowing him and watching him do his magic. I thank my lucky stars that I knew the greatest union advocate, and the sharpest mind I"ve ever known. God bless you Vinnie, Jay R. Ricke, President, Branch 825 NALC

I was deeply saddened to learn of the death of Mr. Sombrotto. To you, his family, I wish to thank you from each and every Letter Carrier in America for the times your family went without a father or a husband because he was so consumed with the welfare of all of us. It was, I am sure, his passion, perhaps his destiny and it has not gone unappreciated. Know in your hearts that he was a truly good man who has left an incredible legacy in his wake. I have no doubt he has told you many times that he wished he had been home with you more and on the road less.
I am now the Treasurer of Branch 286 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, something I am sure in the early days of Vince's tenure would have seemed unbelievable. Much has changed since those early days of the 70's!
From our officers and all our Brothers and Sisters of NALC Br. 286 in Pittsfield, MA.thank you Vince and thank you Sombrottos, you are in our hearts and on our prayers.

Dear Vinny: It took more than 40 years to discover you and I share the same Birth date. The difference being, I was already in the Kindergarten when you were born. June 15, 1918 versus June 15, 1923. Branch 30 invited You to participate in our 50 year VIEWPOINT NEWS MAGAZINE CELEBRATION. At the Kansas City Royals Baseball Game, you threw out the First Pitch and Joe Miller, who was Regional Administrator, made the catch. Right over the Heart of the plate. We were pleased that you stayed a few days after the celebration and enjoyed Kansas City Hospitality. I will always "ASSOCIATE" You with the "NALC SONG, which I composed and "WOWED" the Delegates in Las Vegas. May You rest in Peace and tell Bill Dougherty, Sellie said "HELLO". Sellie Truitt, Branch 30, Kansas City, MO.

Sending my heartfelt sympathy to the family of Vincent Sombrotto, my ex-union president. I always felt secure under his strong leadership, knowing how hard he had worked throughout the years to improve the lives of all the carriers. Thank you for the sacrifices that your family has made in this effort to benefit so many of us carriers. You must have been so proud of him. The Food Drive and the charity for the Muscular Dystrphy drive (Jerry's Kids) he started shows his desire to give back to the public and truly shows the mark of a great man.
Prayers for your comfort on the loss of your husband, father, and grandfather.

I would not have a decent pension without the help of Vince Sombrotto. His greatest achievment was recognization of respect for the common letter carrier.
His emphasis was on the individual's rights, pay and working conditions. I worked for the PO for almost 39 years, then retired. My daughter is an educator, and yes my standard of living was greatly helped by Vincent. This helped me to educate my daughter, who is in turn living and teaching the values Vincent taught me.
Thank you to the Sombrotto Family for sacrificing and sharing Vincent with America. It is a better place thanks to him.

I was a Letter Carrier and shop steward in Lebanon,Pa. Member of the Branch 500 under Allen Stuart. I first met Vince at the hotel in NYC when I was delivering mail at Midtown Station the night we voted for the first strike. I can remember him standing in the group I was in . Over the years I got to know and work for him and the Union. There was no greater leader and man who cared for the Letter Carriers. He was the reason that the Carriers today are where we are today. Vincent Sombrotto will be greatly missed by those of us who were fortunate to work with him during the hard times. I learned a lot from him. I am proud to be able to say that I knew Vincent Sombrotto.

I would just like to offer my condolences to the Sombrotto family. Vincent Sombrotto did more for for letter carriers in the United States than anyone can ever really realize. He did so much for letter carriers before I arrived on the scene in 1986 and so much for me and my fellow carriers since then. I know to his family he was so much more, but all letter carriers in the Postal Service think of him as family as well and owe him such a debt of gratitude for all he has done for us! I personally am saddened by the news of Mr. Sombrottos passing and hope the NALC can and will carry on in the spirit of Vince's vision for his fellow letter carriers well into the future.
Rest in peace Vincent Sombrotto and Thank You for all you have done for me and my fellow carriers.
Respectfully and with sadness,
Robert T. Black

I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my friend Vince. My sincere condolences to his family at this time of their loss. One of his most outstandning
assets Vince had, was his genuine interest and concern when speaking with you about the problems of the Letter Carriers. Vince showed this same concern and interest whether he was talking to a Letter Carrier with one month of service or to the President of the United States!
The Letter Carriers of Branch Eight were very lucky to have Vincent attend, not one, but TWO of our State Conventions. Vince, your work is done. God Bless You. Rest In Peace. The Letter Carriers of this country thank you.
Ray Montanez, Retired Letter Carrier, Branch Eight, Lincoln NE.

To the Sombrotto Family:
We were saddened to learn of the passing of our President and Union Brother Vince. I was an avid and loyal Union Member and liked his leadership style. Part of the reason of my retirement from being the President of Branch 120 was the fact that Vince was no longer President of my Union. I will never forget his personal attendance back in the 90's of our Officer's Installation at the Wayne Manor Restaurant in Wayne, New Jersey. I will always remember how the letter carriers rose from a poverty level to gaining a place in the middle class. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this time of great need. On behalf of my entire family, we extend our most deepest sympathies and condolences.......Joseph Murone, Past President of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 120 in Paterson, New Jersey.
