Obituary of Erika Elizabeth Schrempf
Please share a memory of Erika to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Erika was born in Germany and came to America as a young woman after enduring the hardships of World War II. She married Russell Schrempf of Great Neck, and in 1955 the family moved to Manhasset, where Erika lived for 59 years. During those years she experienced widowhood at a young age, raised her child and worked for over 20 years as a bookkeeper for a local Manhasset firm. Having worked all her life, retirement in her early 60s proved to be unsatisfying so Erika embarked on a totally different second career at the Manhasset Public Library, where she worked in the children’s department for the next 20-plus years. She loved working there and the many new friends she made. Erika was a creative person and her hands were always busy—crocheting Afghans or baby blankets, knitting, sewing, or making her famous Christmas cookies. She loved her garden, listening to opera and enjoying nature. She was grateful for all the good things that came her way in life and took nothing for granted. Auf Wiedersehen, Erika. You are loved and will be missed
