Obituary of John M. Farrell, Jr

John was the product of a Jesuit education having graduated fro the College of the Holy Cross and Fordham University School of Law. Father of six: John (Cathy), Mary Sorresso (Dominic), Tom (Gail),Jim (Elene), Bob (Maria) and Tim (Johanna). Grandfather of 18 and great-grandfather of 1.

John was devoted to his family, friends, church and woodworking, not necessarily in that order, especially during the teen years. A Manhasset resident for 80 years, John especially valued the relationships he developed through volunteering with various local organizations. He enjoyed the conversations from those he met in his life while always respecting their confidence. He often managed to spin collected anecdotes into stories to give counsel and guidence. John was an inveterate do-it-yourselfer and he embraced the frugal habits passed down by his mother. He was a common Saturday sight at Wright Hardware usually wearing suit pants well past their expiration date bedazzled with paint and spackle from his latest projects. It was rare that John conceded defeat and called a repairman, although he did meet his match with a collapsed cesspool. And, at the end of the day, there was no greater sin than fouling a quality gin with tonic. We will miss his often ignored advise and his character in never saying I told you so when eventually proven right. We would also like to thank eighty years of neighbors who were able to look past John's enthusiam for running power tools at all hours of the night to become an important source of comfort and laughs throughout his life.
