There are only a few people you meet through life that you have an immediate affinity with; Ralph was such a person. His warmth, sincerity and genial manner made him very special. I was fortunate enough to have known Ralph for over thirty years. Like many others who have expressed in their tributes and memories of him, I too feel enriched by his friendship and the unique qualities he brought to our long and respectful business relationships. He will be greatly missed by all.

Although I did not know Ralph as well as many people, what I knew of him as the husband of my friend, father to his two boys & as a neighbor, are wonderful memories. Ralph was smart, kind & funny, with an extremely quick wit. He fought valiantly to stay as healthy as possible after his diagnosis of heart failure... to be there for his Elizabeth, Chris & Matt.
I am so sorry that I was unable to attend the wake or funeral. My heart goes out to all who were touched by having Ralph in their lives.

I tried to post yesterday about how much I will miss talking with Ralph, our lunches and his distinctive laugh. We met on 14th St where I opened my architectural office in 1987. He always helped with problems and was engineer on several of my quirky projects. We loved to grab about history and I was happy to find a view if the street in Little Italy where his ancestors had a shop. Condolences to family and friends of Ralph. Lynne Funk Architect.

Ralph has been in my life for over 35 years. Labeling him as my husband's business partner is the least of his attributes in my eyes. Ralph has been a mentor, a father figure, a friend & yes a business partner. But most importantly he was FAMILY! Our family grew with his family. Ralph, Elizabeth, Christopher & Matthew always treated us as part of their family.
He was a quiet, simple guy, with a very funny sense of humor. When we got our first dog Bella, Ralph thought it would be fun to anonymously send me a case of red wine called "LisaBella"! There are many other stories like that, because he was such a thoughtful guy.
Mottola Rini not only lost its founder, we lost a member of the family. Our love goes out to Liz, Chris & Matt. We will always be there for them & keep that special member of our family in our hearts! We love you, Ralph.

Ralph was a very good friend and a perfect gentleman. My association with him and his design team started over 25 years ago as a professional consultant and later developed into a very trusting friendship. A perfect blend of professionalism and pure friendship from the heart.
I will miss his sincere, polite and sensible way of communicating.
Rest in peace dear friend.

I met Ralph approximately 30 years ago on a job site, I was doing the electrical work and he was the engineer of record. It soon became evident to me that Ralph was the kind of person of high intellect about his field without the ego that usually comes along with it. Ralph would always want to help fix a problem rather than blaming anyone for it. We soon became good friends; we would golf many times and always talk about our favorite teams. He was an avid N.Y. Giants fan and I being an avid N.Y. Jets fan would always rib each other about our team’s performance. We would have many discussions on the intricacies of the N.Y. City electrical code which many times helped me on the job. Whether you had a job problem or a personal problem, Ralph was always there to offer his help in any way that he could. Thank you for being my friend, I will always be honored that you called me a friend. Rest in peace.

Working together with my friend Ralph on many projects for 37 years, he was so smart and warm and kind and took the time to to ask how you were, really interested in hearing your answer.
Ralph was a fine, wonderful gentleman and always subtly joyful.
Congratulations, Ralph, it seems to me...a life well lived.
You will be very deeply missed, Ann

I first met Ralph 54 years ago. We soon became good friends. While at S&H, we worked together, played pinochle during lunch, and partied together. Although our lives took different work paths, we kept in touch by phone over the years to catch up on what was going on in each other's lives. Ralph really seemed to enjoy the S&H luncheon reunions that he, I and about a dozen or so past work associates would attend at various city locations over the last 4 to 5 years. You will be missed by all. Rest in peace old friend.

Ralph was many things to a lot of people. He was my partner in business, but more importantly, he was part of my family.
Ralph tried to balance his image as a boss with the compassion of a caring friend. I offer this photo so we can remember Ralph with a smile having fun. We always didn't get to see this side of him, but he truly enjoyed the company he kept and the times he could relax.
God bless you partner...RIP.

My deepest condolences to the Mottola family.
My memories of Ralph Mottola are many. He was my first "real job" boss and an excellent one. He guided me through the very important formative years of my engineering career. Ralph was the perfect balance of firm and relatable. He encouraged me to keep achieving and grow my career, to which I am genuinely grateful. I will always remember his wit, humor and sarcasm. Ralph loved a good joke and loved to share it with those around him.
I will cherish the many memories I have of getting to know him through stories of his travels, his family lineage and Brooklyn upbringing. His generosity, whether it be daily offerings from his garden or citrus fruits for your health, always brought such joy. Ralph greatly enjoyed stopping by my work desk to see what strange vegetarian meals I was eating that day and loved sharing some scotch after a hard work week.
Although I am deeply saddened by the loss of such a great man, I will try to find comfort in the many laughs we shared, engineering feats conquered and conference room conversation.
May you rest in peace, Ralph Mottola. Your presence and light will be greatly missed.
With love and sympathy,
Lauryn Tacoronte

Our condolences to Elisabeth, Christopher and Matthew for the devastating loss of their beloved husband and father.
Ralph was a vibrant personality with a dry sense of humor who was devoted and generous to his family, who he loved dearly.
As our relationship started as a business one, we grew on each other, and our lunches not only were a joy but had become part of a ritual. Sometimes Christopher joined and we had interesting conversations from ancestry to politics even if we were not always on the same side. He respected people's opinions and therefore it was also a free, honest conversation with him.
He shared his memories regarding the times in his business life when he had been traveling extensively, how he met Elisabeth because of this, their adventures in Florence, Italy and so on.
He will be missed and remembered
Nick & Zoe Pappas
