Joan Nancy Fields, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and teacher
Joan Nancy Fields, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, teacher, and guidance counselor, passed away on Wednesday, November 4th, 2020. She was 88 years old.
Nancy was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1932. She was raised in Hollis, Queens and attended Andrew Jackson High School. During college, while attending Bridgeport University in Connecticut, she met and married her husband of 66 years, Joe Fields. In 1957, they moved to Manhasset, New York.
While raising a family of 3 daughters and a son, Nancy continued her college education and earned a Bachelor’s degree. She was a teacher and guidance counselor at Oceanside High School on Long Island for 22 years. While working at Oceanside HS, she earned her Master’s degree in Business Education and completed coursework at Temple University towards a Ph.D.
After Nancy’s retirement in 1997, she and Joe traveled all over the globe; enjoying museums, fine food, and wine throughout their adventures.
Nancy was inducted into the Manhasset Lacrosse Hall of Fame, joining her husband, Joe, and son, Barney. She was an ardent and lifelong fan of the sport.
Nancy was an active member and officer of the Munsey Park Garden Club.
Most recently, some of her favorite things included; iced coffee in the mornings, rosé in the evenings, Turner-classic movies, and her cat (named Cat). Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family - especially with her “pride and joy”, great grandson, Julius, who she saw nearly every day.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joe, (July 12, 2017) and is survived by her four children; Christine Jenne (Richard), Suzanne Fields, Laura Tralongo, Barney Fields (Florencia Ledesma), grandchild Allison Passero (Julius), and a great grandson, Julius Passero III.
