January 20, 1959-November 4, 2020 Stephen D. Scrobe died on November 4, 2020. Steve was adored and loved by his wife, Lori, for 33 years, his four children, Stephanie, Billy, Michael, and Marykate, as well as his sister Mary Carey, his brother Kenneth Kuska, and his nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Steve had the ability to establish and maintain lifelong friendships from elementary school through his college years and beyond. By the time Steve reached the 7th Grade, he had already attended five different schools from New York to Florida, due to his father's career. His real core friendships began upon moving to Smithtown, NY in 1971. After excelling at Holy Family high school in Huntington, NY, he went on to LeMoyne College in Syracuse, NY where he graduated in 1981. Years later, he was asked to return to serve on their Board of Directors. Concurrently, Steve served on the Finance committee for St. Mary's church, the parish that Steve and Lori, with their children, have attended since living in Manhasset. Upon graduating from college, Steve began his career in the financial services industry at Prudential Bache in Great Neck, NY working as an assistant for a Senior Executive of the firm. Steve immediately realized he had a passion for the business. In 1984 Steve began his role as a Financial Advisor at Lehman Brothers in Lower Manhattan. It also became obvious around this time that Steve had a passion for other things beyond work. Steve became an avid Islanders fan in 1972, and if you were to ask him he would tell you he played a crucial role in all four of their Stanley Cups. The '80's were a busy and wonderful time in Steve's life; not only was he playing an integral part propelling the Islanders to greatness, it was also during this time that he met his future wife, Lori. They were married on October 24, 1987 and purchased their first home in Manhasset and remain respected and loved members of their community to this day. Steve and Lori's family began to expand beginning in 1990, eventually becoming the parents of four wonderful children. Additionally, in 1990 Steve made one of the best decisions of his career by joining Oppenheimer & Co. in New York City. His career with Oppenheimer spanned over 30 years, and he served in many roles. Those roles included financial advisor, leader of middle markets, and most recently serving as National Sales Manager for the past 15+ years. Steve had a magnetic personality and always had a kind word and a way of making all people he encountered feeling special. He embodied the attributes that matter most; kindness, thoughtfulness, strong work ethic, and generosity. He loved life and loved his family. One of Steve's life passions was to travel. He believed in living life to its fullest. One of his most memorable escapades included his 40th birthday trip to Pamplona, Spain in 1998 to run with the bulls with a few of his high school friends. This trip inspired him to write a 130 page memoir about their experience. He also loved planning trips with his family. These included Europe, the Grand Canyon, Disney, countless ski trips, the annual family reunions in Montauk, and Saratoga. Throughout Steve's busy life, his commitment to his family remained paramount. Steve had been active in Manhasset softball and baseball. Every weekend possible, he made sure to spend quality time with each of the kids, always making each one of them feel so special. Steve became involved in the autism community, due to his son Billy. He was a founding parent of Spectrum Designs and the Nicholas Center, both located in Port Washington, NY. To honor Steve's life, please consider making a donation to either Spectrum Designs or the Nicholas Center at spectrumdesigns.org. He has played an integral role in raising funds for both these organizations. Although Steve left this world far too soon, his legacy is one of generosity, kindness, concern for others, and love for his family and friends. Steve can rest in peace knowing that his wife and children will forever hold him in their hearts and will share his love for life.
