Having moved out of Manhasset decades ago, I had lost track of many people with whom I grew up, including Kenny. A couple years older than me, I first met him when I was a little kid, as he lived a couple houses and a gated fence away. Always kind, gentle and up for a catch or a tag football game in my yard with my brothers, or for building a snowball fort, complete with (Ken's idea) fortress walls lined with snow shelves to hold a plethora of premade snowballs to pushoff any attacks. As we grew older, through H.S. and beyond, different grades (he was two grades above), differing interests, etc intervened and quietly grew us apart. But we would always greet each and/or stop to catchup when are paths crossed. And though a large majority of the older kids in the upper classes were too cool or embarrassed to be seen talking to a younger kid, Ken was the exact opposite - always warm, welcoming, and immediately treated me like a peer. Although I had not run into or spoken with him in nearly 40 years, Kenny Bluhm was a strong and steady thread thru the tapestry of my happy memories growing up as his neighbor in Manhasset. I always thought I'd run into him and catch up again, It saddens me to the core knowing that will now not occur,I now that I have belatedly discovered this happy and vital link to that past that Ken meant to me has moved on to a new adventure. Kenny, as an only child, had to mature fast, and always had, it seemed, a chore list to get done - well before I knew what chores were. He lived with kind, hard-working, yet strict German-speaking parents and his O-Ma (and their airedale, Keri). Ken had to conquer the English language fast as young boy, as he was employed as the family's translator of sorts, and always dutiful and quick to respond to chores his family's needed him to do. But when he finally he was released from responsibilities to play, he was a joy to hangout with. I will miss you, Kenny, and I grieve for your absence as if you were my family... I know that because the sad news (to me) of your passing has resulted in a genuine heartache as I field the many fond memories that now flood my mind, Your memory will live on in good stead until I join you, my old friend. God Bless you and your family.

I knew Ken only for a short time when I started at the NYC Carpenters Union in late 2019, but I always thought of him as a gentle giant. May his memory be a blessing and may his loved ones find comfort in each other.
