Susan was more than a friend.
We went to school together in Mexico and were as close as sisters during that time. Though we did not see each other much after graduating we kept in touch through letters and the occasional phone call where I would hear of the accomplishments of her dear sons and, of course, I received a yearly Christmas. I did not hear of my dear friend's passing until today (April 10, 2023). Knowing that her birthday is near I wanted to reach out. I am absolutely heartbroken but know that she is smiling and celebrating with the angels.
I will forever keep you in my heart and never forget you dear, dear Susan.

I was very sorry to hear of Dr. Sanelli's passing. As her colleague at Queens Hospital for several years, I always appreciated how warm and caring she was. She also had a good sense of humor and led with enthusiasm, integrity, and excellent judgment. Although I was a junior physician, she sponsored me to serve on a medical leadership committee with her; I will always be grateful for her support.

Susan, I dearly miss you and I'm heartbroken. I can't believe that I would not be able to see you even once after I am retired. We worked together for over 30 years. You were my supervisor, but you were more like an " Office's sister". You were so kind and warm. You always help me and give me full support whenever I need it. You were a good listener, always sharing my sadness and happiness. You will live in my heart forever and I will miss you till the day we meet again!
My deepest condolence to the family.

I worked with Dr Susan Sanelli and her husband Dr Dan Russo at Booth Memorial Medical Center when they were both resident physicians, loved by the nursing staff. Years later I again worked with Susan at.The Queens Hospital Center where she was Director of Neurology. Susan remained the same smart, warm, always available professional who was exceptionally easy to work with in my role as Director Infection Control. I am so deeply sorry for her loss and hope her family may be comforted by the knowledge that she was loved and respected by many

I remember Susan from the days of our residency, she was my senior resident. She was smart and cheerful, beautifully dressed, with perfectly manicured nails, even back in the early 90s!
I was shocked and saddened to hear that she is no longer with us, what a loss to her family and those who knew her and the community at large. My condolences to Susan's family, she will live forever in our memories. Gayatri Devi

I was chief resident along with Susan at SUNY-Downstate Kings County Hospital 30+ years ago. We spent our residency years together. Susan was bright and had a great sense of humor. I spoke to her a couple of years back in the midst of the COVID crisis. I am so saddened to hear of our passing. A's neurologists, we give so much.

I first met this beautiful soul 20 years ago, when i first started working at Queens. She had such a strong and confident personality, I just instantly clicked with her. So much so that I chose her to be my late husbands provider.
Dr Sanelli was not only a coworker but a mother figure to me. She comforted me during my late husbands illness and even years after his early passing, not only providing professional support and pushing me to grow in my career but motherly support with a shoulder to cry on and being a straight shooter, even when i felt i couldnt go forward. She was the reason my late hubby got the answers he needed in regards to his diagnosis. When noone wanted to take his case, she took it on and referred him to the rare specialist that would work to find even more answers.
Her compassion with her patients was something of a rarity that isnt taught but comes from the heart. She never backed down and was dedicated to her profession. I only wish there were more people and Doctors like her.
I want to let her family know that she will be sorely missed and know that the mark she has left on me has made me who I am today. I want to thank them for sharing her with the world and knkw that her fight will not be in vain.
Dr Sanelli, my heart is heavy knowing you're not physically here to have those conversations. Thank you for believing in me, for encouraging me and making me feel like a part of the team. Rest easy beautiful soul, we got it from here.
With the deepest of love
Mellissa L Johnson-Collado and family
