Obituary of Theresa Marie Rooney

 Theresa M., Rooney of Port St Lucie, Florida passed away December 3 2022 due to complications from a stroke suffered October 2021. Beloved sister of Jessica, Joseph (Kathleen), Brendan (Guadalupe), Timothy (Julie), Peter (Christine) and Eileen McCarthy (Patrick). She was predeceased by her parents Peter and Gertrude and sister Maureen. Theresa was a cherished Aunt and Grand Aunt to many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Services are being handled by Fairchild Sons in Manhasset.

The wake is 3-7 pm on 12/20/22 and funeral mass at St Marys Manhasset at 1145 on 12/21.

Theresa was born May 28 1962. She attended St Mary’s School in Manhasset and went on to Hofstra University where she received a doctorate degree in English. As a young adult, she spent a few years in Japan learning the language and culture. She loved her experience there and continued to speak fluent Japanese her entire life. She spent her professional career as a Professor at York College in Queens, NY where she was a member of the Faculty Senate. She was deeply committed to student success and served as a mentor to students elected to the York Student Government Association. She received numerous awards from the SGA for her dedication. She was a generous soul and will be missed by her family,friends and colleagues.
