Obituary of Jeanette Albanese
Jeanette Albanese (88) of Manhasset, New York passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 17, 2023 at the Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Jeanette was born on January 21, 1935 to Eugene and Louise Carfora. Jeanette and her younger brother, Eugene, lived in Brooklyn for a few years until their family moved to the Richmond Hill section of Queens.
After graduating from Richmond Hill High School with honors, she attended Queens College where she earned a BA degree and a Master’s degree in education. Jeanette became an elementary school teacher after graduating from Queens College in 1956.
On July 30, 1960, Jeanette married Joseph R. Albanese. They settled in Holliswood, Queens to raise their 4 children before moving out to Long Island (Manhasset) in 1976 where they have lived ever since. They have been blessed with 7 grandchildren.
In addition to raising a family, Jeanette had many talents and interests. She was an accomplished artist as well as a patron of the arts. She loved cooking for her family and was an avid reader of the newspaper and books. Jeanette even found time for weekly bowling nights with her husband and enjoyed playing tennis and golf. After raising her 4 children, Jeanette became a substitute teacher and was able to spend more time painting. While doing all of this, she also volunteered her time with various charities including the North Shore Child and Family Guidance Center. In all that she did, her Catholic faith was an essential part of her life.
Jeanette was a devoted and beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She was a kind soul with a heart of gold who always saw the good in people. Whether it was to express words of encouragement or gratitude or condolences, Jeanette would always take the time to send a personal handwritten note. Jeanette was a wonderful person who you could count on with a ready smile and kind words no matter the circumstances.
Although a stroke and COVID-19 caused her to become a long-term care patient for the last 3 years, she always found the strength to smile and say thank you to the incredible people who took care of her. Throughout this ordeal, she never complained and continued to exhibit the same grace with which she lived her entire life. Even under these terrible circumstances, she exemplified how to live with class, dignity and kindness toward others.
Jeanette is survived by her husband, Joseph, of over 60 years, her 4 children, Lisa (Peter), Marlena, Valerie (Charlie) and Vincent (Nancy), her 7 grandchildren, Sam, Gillen, Ava, Max, Rebecca, Joe and Patrick, her brother, Eugene, her sister-in-laws, Annette and Niki, her cousin, Phil, and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
