Obituary of Miriam Richardson

Please share a memory of Miriam to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Miriam S. Richardson, 92 years old, of Manhasset, NY, passed away on May 25, 2023 after a brief illness.  Miriam was born at Prospect Heights Hospital in Brooklyn, NY on May 7, 1931 to Miriam and James Lane. She spent her childhood in Park Slope and Flatbush, Brooklyn with her sisters, Patricia (Tully) and Veronica (Harvey) and her cousin Joan (Burke), who she considered another sister.

Miriam attended St. Vincent Ferrer Elementary School and Bishop McDonnell Memorial HS in Brooklyn.  She also earned a NY State Regents Scholarship and attended Hunter College in New York City.  She worked briefly as a teacher before getting married.

Miriam met her beloved late husband John in 1952.  In the typical Catholic social fashion of the day, they met when the Fordham University Men’s Glee Club came to sing at a Hunter College Newman Club event in New York City.  They wed in 1954 and were married for sixty years.  They had nine children:  John (Maryanne), Gerard, James, Joseph, Jean, Paul, William (Jackie), Nancy (John), and Amy (Bill); twenty-one grandchildren: Andrew, Tim, Nicole, Lauren, Elizabeth, Michael, Sarah, Stephen, Emily, Chris, Nick, Ben, Paul, Christina, Kring, Samantha, Thomas, Jack, Kevin, Christopher and Allison; and four great-grandchildren: Enzo, Sonny, Eva and Marco.

Miriam was an active parishioner at Christ the King in Springfield Gardens, Our Lady of Mercy in Forest Hills, and St. Mary’s in Manhasset, NY.

Miriam Richardson was the epitome of Christian grace.  She was kind and loving soul.   Her natural cheerfulness and generous spirit provided the calm center that was the foundation of her large family.   Her greatest joy during her golden years was attending the weddings, baptisms, birthday parties, graduations, communions, and confirmations of all her grandchildren.

She will be missed beyond measure.
