It is my desire to honor Terry with this writing as he has been in my life since birth. He and his brothers lived across the street from my sisters and me in Woodside and so it was routine for us to cross each other's path on a regular basis. They were "cool" and we were...well... "less cool". They carved the path for us. And so, it is impossible to honor Terry without acknowledging that bond of the brothers and our family. Throughout our lives as we grew up, Terry, Billy and Larry made my sisters and I feel that our safety was more important to them than their own and so, eventually, I came to feel that their safety was more important to me than my own.
The fathers, Uncle Nick, Uncle Tom and my father, William, are brothers and they set that example. The brothers were close in Ireland and they continued that relationship here. In fact, when my mother was born in Ireland, Uncle Nick - older than my father by a number of years - was close friends with my mother's father, Patrick and spent a great deal of time on her farm. My father joined and that is how my parents met. Thanks to the love and integrity of our family, what began quite a while ago continued here representing Ireland in the U.S. as it should be represented. They gathered us together for endless family occasions - for as far back as I can remember.
As children, my sisters and I yearned for even a glimpse of Billy, Larry and Terry. Thank God for my mother's cooking and those gatherings - serving as the foundation of love and support and of trust - knowing that, if put to the test, you have each other's back.
We felt blessed and safe enveloped by their love as it occurred on many occasions from good to bad. On one such occasion, when a stranger misbehaved as a family party as occurring, the house emptied - as the men, the fathers and Uncles, Thomas, Nick and my father with Terry, Billy and Larry, Thomas Jr., Mr. Budreo and the Jantzens and more flooded the streets of Woodside looking for him. Nothing could have stopped them, when, as a young child, they sounded to me like a herd of elephants running out the door and down the stairs. As a child, I remember dancing at so many gatherings and feeling so blessed. We were never excluded whether it was an early morning Holy Communion breakfast or a late evening Clare Ball at the Waldorf Astoria.
The three fathers made sure that we knew our Irish heritage. And so, it was so fitting that Terry, Billy and Larry were FDNY AND NYPD because concern for others was always upper most in their minds. Terry served in the Military, saved lives in FDNY and then recovered his colleagues after 911. He exemplified for everyone else the real reason our parents came here - to do some good. Each worked so hard and led decent lives, unselfishly adding and improving the lives of others.
As families grow and fan out on their own, unexpected turns occur in life but God blessed us making us feel that Larry, Billy and Terry's love was a constant, their leadership always present and their protection always available. With or without titles, Larry,
Terry and Billy influenced others first. It was just natural for them to do so. It is unfathomable to me now that the earth continues to revolve on its axis without so many of our loved ones - but in my heart I believe it does so because of the way our loved ones lived their lives and that is the true gift that Terry and his brothers give to each of us.
Enclosed photo is of my mother and father, Elizabeth and William Quinn on their wedding day with Aunt Kathleen and Uncle Nick and their sons, Terry, Larry and Billy.

Terry, and his brothers Billy and Larry, and their mom Kathleen and dad Nick, were among my favorite relatives to visit as I grew up on Long Island. My dad, Marty, who was Kathleen's brother, and mom, Dottie, loved to bring me and my sister Barbara to Woodside to visit. As I grew older, I looked forward to every occasion when I could see Terry, Billy and Larry and their families. Terry's love for his parents, brothers, and his wife Kathy and sons Adam and Nick was so strong. He and his brothers were all great examples for me of how to be good, loving men. Dottie and I and my wife and sons will pray for Terry and his family.

I’m so sorry to hear this news. My heartfelt condolences to the entire family. I have so many memories growing up and talking with Terry and hearing his stories and insight on mine. Every time I was outside I’d see him and cross the street to say hello and after I moved away at 18 & came back to visit I’d catch him up on my stories. He was not only an amazing neighbor but I considered him our friend. May his huge and beautiful heart rest in peace. With much love, Jennifer Ogle

His Irish eyes were always smiling (with a mischievous twinkle). His hand was always outstretched to offer support, solace and companionship. He was an extra-ordinary man living an ordinary life. As friend, he was a special blessing. May he rest in peace.
