Obituary of Emil Mayer

Please share a memory of Emil to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Emil Mayer, 85 years of age, passed away peacefully in his home in Millville, Delaware on October 11, 2023, with his fiancé, Bonnie and her 2 daughters, Patty and Maria by his side. Emil was born in Lenzkirch, Germany with seven siblings (Gunther, Krista, Franz, Horst, Wolfgang, Peter, and Heinz) and was the first to immigrate to the United States at the age of 19, following his completion of Trade School. A genuinely self made man, Emil started as a brick mason, and ultimately became a construction entrepreneur, inventor and property investor. His work was his life's passion and his work ethic was incomparable. Emil's favorite hobbies included golf, traveling and restoring German classic cars.

His passing is preceded by his father Franz Mayer and his mother Luisa Mayer, his seven siblings and his wife, Adelaide Mayer.

One of his biggest accomplishments was being a father. He had always wanted children and considered himself lucky to have four. He was always there for us through our ups and downs and encouraged us to enjoy every moment life had to offer.

He is survived by his children Deborah Fogarty, Ronald Mayer, Christopher Mayer and Robin Mayer-Murphy and his first wife, Carolann Parlato. His grandchildren and great grand children were a source of great pride and joy.

Emil was blessed enough to have shared 15 beautiful years with his beloved fiancé, Bonnie Filshie, and her daughters and her grandchildren, whom he greatly adored. Bonnie was his "Sunshine". We are blessed to have this treasured extension of family in our lives. Emil's great love and dedication to his family, friends and colleagues will not soon be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Delaware Hospice, are greatly appreciated
