Obituary of Dean Gajdjis

Please share a memory of Dean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dean Steven Gajdjis of Port Jefferson Station, Long Island, New York passed away peacefully on December 6, 2023, surrounded by his brothers and mother. Dean was 58 years old, and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Dean was born in Queens, N.Y. on May 29th,1965 to his late father Stephanos Gajdjis, and mother Irene Gajdjis.  Dean grew up and spent the majority of his life in Smithtown, New York, where he also worked.

Growing up in Smithtown was filled with lots of fun playing all sorts of sports; football at the sod farm, little league baseball, bowling (at the Smithtown Bowling Alley), riding bikes and any other activity that kept him and his brothers outside. Dean played the saxophone and was a member of the Smithtown H.S. marching band. Dean loved the beaches, both on the North Shore and the ocean beaches on the South Shore, especially Robert Moses. Later as an adult, his love of beaches extended to the gulf coast of Florida, where he would visit his twin brothers in Sarasota, and they would drive up and down the coast finding Tiki Huts, where Dean loved having a cold beer with his brothers and taking in the water views.

Dean was an exceptionally gentle, kind, and loving son, brother and friend to many. Friends, co-workers and family members of Dean knew him as a “great guy”, quiet and having a gentle soul. To say Dean will be missed by all of those close to him is an understatement. Dean was always willing to lend a hand, especially helping man the BBQ at family events. He had a passion for aeronautical and military history. He read passionately about those topics and enjoyed historical documentaries.

Dean will be dearly missed by his mom Irene, brothers Tom, Pete and Nick, sister in law Peggy, nieces Stephanie, Sophia and Kathryn, and all his cousins, aunts and other family members, friends and co-workers.

May the many memories of Dean held by his loved ones bring comfort, admiration, a smile and laughs to those left behind.

Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing at Fairchild Funeral Chapel, 1570 Northern Blvd., Manhasset, N.Y., on Tuesday, December 12 from 4-8 pm.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 913 at 10:00 am at St. Demetrios Church, 84 35 152nd St., Jamaica, N.Y. 11432
