Obituary of Mykola Rybalka

Mykola Rybalka, a retired engineer from Ukraine, made a courageous decision about 20 years ago to move to the USA, prompted by his son Oleg's willingness. Leaving behind his comfortable environment and numerous friends, Mykola's journey was a testament to his deep love for his son. In Ukraine, he dedicated 43 years to working at a machine-building plant, designing equipment for underground structures, subways, and coal mines.

Adapting to a new life in the USA wasn't easy for Mykola, but he embraced the challenge, offering unwavering support to Oleg as both a father and a best friend. Together with his loving wife, Valentina, they transformed a Manhasset fixer-upper into a haven of happiness. Mykola became a well-known figure in the community, celebrated for his friendliness and the warmth he shared with everyone he met.

Known for his joyful spirit, Mykola had a unique way of connecting with the world around him. He would wave to people passing by, receiving warm responses in return. His interactions extended beyond people to include conversations with dogs and serenades to birds, attempting to teach them the Ukrainian way of singing.

Mykola celebrated his 85th birthday on December 23, 2023, in good health, with many plans, including a hoped-for visit to his beloved Ukraine once the war was over. Born without an angry gene, he radiated love instead of anger.

Tragically, before dusk on Dec 28, 2023, during what should have been a routine crossing of Plandome Road, Mykola's life was abruptly ended by several tons of moving power that failed to stop and share his love for life. His passing has left a significant void in the lives of those who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.

Mykola is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Valentina (82 years old), and his son, Oleg (56 years old). Impossible to wish for better father and husband. The sorrow felt by the family is profound and will endure for the rest of their lives.

A memorial service to celebrate Mykola's life will be held on Wendesday, January 3, 2023 at Fairchild Sons at 1570 Northern Blvd., Manhasset NY 11030 from 4pm to 8pm.

Mykola's memory lives on in the hearts of those he touched, and his legacy as a loving father, husband, and friend is impossible to replace.
