Obituary of Robert B. Pohl

Robert Pohl, longtime former resident of Port Washington passed away on Saturday December 23, 2023 at his residence in the Bristal Assist Living in Garden City.  He was 99 years old.  He moved his family to Port Washington in 1962 and resided there until 2020 when he moved into assisted living.  He was predeceased by his wife Kathleen, and is survived by his two daughters, Jennifer and Sara. 

He was born on August 14, 1924 in the Bronx to Leland and Violetta Pohl, who then relocated to Rahway, New Jersey where he spent is youth. He was an Eagle Scout.

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve in 1943 and received appointment to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis.  He graduated in 1947 with a Bachelors of Science in electrical engineering.  After military discharge, he attended the University of Michigan Law School, graduating in 1952.

He met his wife Kathleen while in law school who was a registered nurse and they were together for 61 years until her death in 2015.

Robert practiced Maritime Law at Burlingham, Underwood and Lord in Manhattan until his retirement in 1993.  Both were active and devoted members of St. Stephens Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry for many years and was also an usher.  A memorial service to honor Robert’s life will be held on February 10th, 11am at St Stephen's Epsicopal Church 9 Carlton Ave., Port Washington, NY 11050
