Obituary of Maria Elena Silvestri Rovegno

Maria Elena Silvestri Rovegno, born in Brooklyn, NY, died on December 31st, 2023. She was seventy-eight years old.

Maria grew up in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, where she attended Queen of All Saints Elementary School, St. Angela Hall Academy, and earned her bachelor’s degree at St. Joseph’s College for Women, where she had also attended the Early Childhood Lab School as a pre-schooler. She earned a Master’s in Fine Arts from CUNY Brooklyn College, and began her career as an early childhood educator at the More Effective School/Head Start Program at P.S. 307 in Vinegar Hill, Brooklyn, moving on to become the director of the Early Childhood Children’s Program at CUNY Brooklyn College.

Maria later became a successful real estate broker with Douglas Elliman’s Port Washington and Manhasset offices for thirty-three years, where she built a community of clients who became dear friends.

Maria’s larger than life personality is legend. She left an indelible and joyous impression of her extraordinary spirit on everyone in her beloved community.

She is survived by her loving family, husband, Robert Rovegno, son, Christopher Rovegno, daughter, Mia Rovegno, grandson Stefano Rovegno, her two dear sisters, Patricia Silvestri and Roberta Pantle (John), and her loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Fairchild Sons Funeral Chapel, 1570 Northern Boulevard, 4-7pm on Saturday, January 13, 2024.
