Please share a memory of Gat to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Gat “Gary” Lee, 86 years old of Great Neck, NY, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on December 17, 1937 in Toisan, China.  He was the youngest of three siblings born to Chun Wing and Tuey Wan Lee.  His older brother was Fuey and his older sister was Toy Wan.
Gat met Ellie in March 1964 in Hong Kong and got married in October 1964.  They enjoyed almost 60 years together as husband and wife.  He was the patriarch of the family, perfecting a balance of raising his only child, Albert, while pursuing his education, various business and real estate ventures, hobbies, actively trading stocks, and his passion of playing 9-Man volleyball and table tennis.
Gat immigrated to the United States in 1951 and gained U.S. citizenship in 1952.  He lived in Woodhaven, Queens and while attending Seward Park High School in Chinatown, NY, he worked in the family laundry business.  After graduating from high school, Gat attended the College of the City of New York and obtained his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree in June 1961.  Continuing his education, he obtained his Master of Electrical Engineering degree in June 1965 from New York University and his Master of Science degree from Adelphi University in June 1969.
A resilient and courageous man, Gat built a successful career at Grumman Aerospace in Bethpage, NY where he worked for over 35 years as an electrical engineer.  Among various accomplishments at Grumman, he was the primary engineer who built black boxes for the F-14 Tomcat.  After leaving Grumman, he co-founded Grace Electronics in Long Island, NY.  Gat was also a real estate investor and built a portfolio of multi-family properties across Queens and Long Island.
Gat is a lifelong New Yorker who lived in Queens and Long Island.  Gat is survived by his wife Ellie, his son Albert and wife Julie Lee, and his three grandchildren, Timothy, Jenna, and Max.
May Gat find eternal peace in his next chapter, and may the many memories held by his loved ones bring comfort and endless laughs to those left behind.
