Obituary of Burton E. Morris
Please share a memory of Burton to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Burton (“Bud”) Morris passed away peacefully on June 20, 2024 at the age of 101. Bud was born in New Bedford, MA but spent most of his life in Port Washington, where he became an avid sailor. After high school graduation he attended Brown University for two years before joining the U.S. Army in early 1943. Bud volunteered for the paratroopers, joining the 11th Airborne Division and serving in the Philippines and Japan.
Following his discharge from the Army, Bud returned to Brown and then went to work for Allied Chemical, where he met Rita Dolan. They married on April Fool’s Day in 1950, eventually buying a home in Port Washington and raising four children there. Bud was active in the Port Youth Activities (PYA) organization as a coach and administrator, served tirelessly as a member of his high school reunion committee, and worked as a stockbroker in Great Neck, retiring at age 75. He followed up his long career in the securities business with a 21-year run as a volunteer at St. Francis Hospital. Bud also spent his retirement enjoying his grandkids, grabbing lunch with his volunteer friends, pursuing a passion for jigsaw puzzles which he loved to frame and give as gifts, as well as caring for Rita who passed in 2007. He was predeceased by his sister Peggy.
Bud is survived by his children Kenny (Dina), Bob (Tina), Jeanne (Gene) and Jim (Gail), as well as eight grandchildren (Brendon, Jimmy, Kayla, Bryan, Tom, Joe, Hannah, Ella) and three great grandchildren (Jackson, Emily, Charlotte). Visitation will be at the Fairchild Chapel 1570 Northern Blvd. Manhasset, NY on Saturday June 29th 10 am to 12:30 pm. It was Bud’s wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of donations to the St. Francis Hospital Foundation.
