Obituary of Joseph K. Pradas

Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Joseph Pradas ("Joe"), 45, of Roslyn, NY, passed away on August 3, 2024, surrounded by his family, after a heroic ten month battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis ("ALS").

Joe was a loving husband to his wife, Danielle, and a devoted and hands-on father to their three children, Zachary (11), Olivia (9) and Jake (7).

Joe was born on May 12, 1979 to Jose Pradas and Gloria Pradas. He was raised on Long Island and attended St. Anthony's High School in South Huntington, NY.  He went on to attend college at the University of Delaware, where he played Division 1 tennis. He subsequently attended Fordham University where he earned his Masters in Business Administration.

Joe had a passion for finance and he established himself as a well-respected Foreign Exchange Options Trader. He worked for large financial institutions, including Barclays Capital, BNP Paribas, and most recently, Bank of Nova Scotia.  Joe was loved by his colleagues and brokers in the field. His work also required him to travel. Joe took regular business trips to London and Singapore and also traveled to Paris, Mexico City  and Lima, Peru for work.  His most recent business trip was to Santiago, Chile and Bogota, Colombia in November, 2023.

Joe was proud of his travel for both work and pleasure, having been to 45 countries in his 45 years. He had a deep connection to the country of Spain, where he spent many summers at the home of his paternal grandparents.

Joe was an avid tennis player, skier, and golfer. He was an active person for all of his life and he encouraged his children to be active as well. He was incredibly proud that he taught all three of his young children to ski.

It is impossible to capture all of Joe in a short write-up. He lived a full life in 45 short years - building a successful career, marrying the love of his life, traveling around the world, making friends wherever he went, hosting many family and friend get-togethers at his home often in his backyard that he loved, and leaving his legacy in three beautiful children. He was an amazing one-of-a-kind person and we are left with a huge void without him. He is loved by so many.

Joe is survived and loved by his children, Zachary, Olivia and Jake; his wife, Danielle; his mother, Gloria; his father and step-mother, Jose and Donna; his brother and sister-in-law, Eric and Jen; his in-laws, Mike and Donna; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jessica and Phil; his step-siblings, Karli (Nick) and JJ; his nieces and nephews, Madison, Harper, Emerson, Michael, Sloane, River and Parker; his uncles, aunts and cousins; and countless friends and colleagues.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Children's Heart Foundation in honor of Olivia Pradas or I Am ALS in memory of Joe Pradas.
